Skywave
This project was produced by TAB LABS
"Skywave" was a captivating audio-visual installation commissioned for the 10th Luminaria Festival in San Antonio. This innovative project featured a geodesic dome structure housing a 16-channel audio system, with three FM transmitters sending audio to 8 radios that split the signal to 16 speakers strategically placed on the dome's joints. The installation incorporated a unique capacitive control system where a metal sphere inside the dome measured electrical resistance, allowing users to interact with the audio and visual environment by touching or standing near the sphere.
The concept behind "Skywave" was to create an immersive experience that combined elements of traditional radio broadcasting with futuristic technology. The installation offered viewers the opportunity to explore a wide range of radio stations from around the world, as well as interact with 'future music' algorithms controlled by the metal sphere. The title of the installation, "Skywave," referenced the phenomenon of radio waves bouncing between the earth's ionosphere and surface, symbolizing the connection between past, present, and future technologies.
